Student Testimonials

Country of origin: South Korea
Now working: Registered Nurse in Delta BC, Canada

Esther is a Registered Nurse from South Korea.  She decided to pursue her nursing career in Canada because she knew that Canada is a good place to live and raise children.  She felt that there are greater benefits and opportunities for nurses in Canada compared with her home country.  When asked about her experience so far, she says, “so far, so good!”. However, she also says “it was very tough to fulfill all the requirements of the registration process, including achieving the English scores, the SEC test, and all the documentation that needed to be done before I was even eligible to write the CRNE.  However, I got so much advice from OMNI and friends, I got through it all easier than expected. I met so many precious people at OMNI: my classmates, the graduates, teachers and staff.  They gave me support, advice and love.  They helped me in so many ways.  If I can, I also want to be the same person for other students.  For other students, I would like to say “always be positive!”.  It’s not easy to be an IEN nurse in Canada but if you stay positive you will get through it too.  Thank you for spending the time to read my story—I wish good luck to everyone!”.

Thank you Esther, for being an inspiration to others.

Shubha came to OMNI College in July 2009, from the Kerala state of India.  She was successful in passing her CRNE in June 2010.

Shubha was very intrigued by the prospect of continuing her nursing career in Canada, mostly because her sister came to this country before her and has been very happy as a nurse.  Her sister shared with her first hand how nurses in Canada are treated equally important as doctors, which was not the same work environment she was used to in India.  So she decided to come to OMNI.  When asked about her experience here, she said “When I first arrived, it was very hard for me to get used to the different culture, language, food, everything.  But all the staff at OMNI helped me to acclimate here and their support was really wonderful.  They have a down to earth attitude and are easily approachable.  I gained so much from OMNI, among them the most precious thing I got was I passed my RN exam.  The exam was extremely tough, but with the training and practice I got from OMNI, made the exam a simple one.

Country of origin: Japan
Now working: Registered Nurse in Vancouver, BC, Canada

Mamiko was a Registered Nurse in Japan, but after coming to Canada she struggled with English and had some difficulty achieving the English test level required by the College of Registered Nurses of BC.

She heard about OMNI College through a friend who had completed OMNI’s Nursing program and she strongly recommended that Mamiko consider enrolling at OMNI College. Mamiko took her friends advice, and passed her English competency tests and her Canadian Registered Nurse Exam (CRNE). Today, she is working happily as a Registered Nurse on Vancouver Island, BC.

“Before I came to OMNI College, I was struggling to pass the English competency test required by the CRNBC. Although I was attending a couple of ESL classes at other schools, I could not pass the Spoken Test portion for a very long time. I was able to pass the written test, but could not pass the Test of Spoken English (TSE).  But after only 3 months of starting at OMNI College, I successfully passed the TSE. I think I had great training in class not only about nursing in Canada, but also helping me to speak English better!

I really like OMNI College. There are so many great things about OMNI, but I think one of the best parts was our instructor. I could not have become an RN in Canada if I hadn’t met her. She is one of the best teachers of my life. I also liked the staff at OMNI College. Ron and his staff were very caring and helped the students as much as they could. Ron always said “OMNI is a family”. I think this is very right. Everybody was very helpful and it was a very comfortable, close-knit environment.

The friends I made at OMNI are also very important to me. My classmates all shared similar situations and we were all striving for the same goal – to be able to pass our CRNE and become RNs in Canada! We encouraged each other which made ourselves stronger. What’s great is that I still keep in touch with many of them and we continue to help each other out!

I gained many valuable experiences at OMNI College, but the most important one was the knowledge and confidence I needed in order to successfully pass the RN Exam.

For those students who are interested in OMNI College – if you really want to be an RN in BC, you are thinking about the right school. This is your way! If you put your trust in the instructors and staff at OMNI and if you study hard, you will be able to become an RN like me for sure. Good luck!”

“I was so worried about the June exam as it was the new format, but it ended up being not as difficult as I expected because of the training and preparation I received from my instructor at OMNI.  It was not easy but I got through it and now I can work as an RN in Canada!  I am so excited about it!  I’m so grateful to have met my instructor and the people at OMNI.  They always do their best to help me and I am so grateful.  I’m also thankful for the friends I made here who gave me emotional and mental support.  Because of all of them I didn’t give up and here I am!”

Tintu is an RN from India, and now also an RN in Canada.  After joining OMNI’s nursing program and then passing her Canadian Registered Nurse Examination, Tintu received three job offers.  She chose one of the hospitals in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and began her orientation in the hospital ward this summer.  In an email sent to OMNI, she reports that “people over here are very nice and I am enjoying my life well over here!”.

Before coming to OMNI College, Tintu knew that Canada is one of the finest countries in the world with a great health care system.  It was her dream to come to Canada to pursue her nursing career.  Since arriving, Tintu says “my experience in Canada has been great and wonderful.  I am amazed by the level of respect that each individual has for each other, and by the independence of every single person in this country”.  She says that these were some of the most valuable lessons she learned from OMNI College – her self-respect and independence.  She now has a high level of confidence and feels very positive about her career and her journey here in Canada.
